Our Affirming Groups
Neurodivergent-Affirming Virtual Skills Group
Thank you for your interest in our new Neurodivergent-Affirming Virtual Skills Group, centered on teaching DBT skills for parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children.
Parents and caregivers of a neurodivergent (ND) child or children have parenting experiences that are not always addressed in parenting groups centered on neurotypical children.
Our goal is to offer a group that teaches skills we feel are especially helpful to parents of ND children.
Group Facilitators
Flo is a licensed clinical social worker based in Ann Arbor. She is passionate about working with individuals who live with disabilities and/or chronic illness. This passion is informed by her own experiences as a person with a disability. Flo received her Master of Social Work and Public Health from Wayne State University, and has experience and training implementing skills from DBT with individuals.
Quinn is a neurodivergent LLMSW practicing in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area. They primarily work with neurodivergent adults and parents of neurodivergent children, incorporating skills from DBT and ACT. They are also a parent to two neurodivergent children. They received their Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, and co-led a DBT skills group with Flo at the Mari A. Rackham Institute as part of their clinical field placement. Neurodiversity is their passion, and they’re so excited to have a space to geek out about neurodivergent brain-body systems every week!
What is this group and who is it for?
This group is for any parent or caregiver of an ND child, who is interested in learning new skills to support them in their parenting journey.
Skills and concepts shared in this group come from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). We also pull in some activities and concepts from professionals in the field and other modalities like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We want to provide a space where parents/caregivers can come together to learn and reflect on these skills and concepts.
While we are both licensed therapists, please know that this is not a therapy group, and we cannot provide individualized support during our time together. Some of the topics we discuss may bring up difficult feelings. We encourage you to bring what you learn to an individual therapist or contact Danny Boy Foundation about other support options and programs. Please feel free to ask questions below if you’re not sure whether this group is the right fit for you at this time.
-
This group starts on Wednesday October 14th, 2026. We meet virtually every Wednesday from 6pm-7:30pm.
Just like DBT, our skills group consists of four modules (mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance). Each module will consist of 4-5 meetings (one meeting each week). We will take holiday weeks off, and the fourth and final module will end in February.
-
To participate in this skills group, you can sign up for one module (4-5 meetings) by making a donation (minimum of $20) to the Danny Boy Foundation here. When one module ends, you will have the option to sign up for the next module for the same cost. If you cannot afford the $20 minimum donation, please reach out to inquire about financial aid options, we don’t want anyone to miss out because of financial barriers.

Please complete Client Interest Form by filling out the information below. A group facilitator will contact you via email within one week to confirm your participation.
Some Things To Know
This group is based on a DBT skills group that we co-led in the past, but this is our first time running the group with a focus on parents and caregivers of ND children. While we are excited about the group we have put together, we may make some changes to our group format/process as we go through this first round. We encourage you to share any feedback you have with us as we go! Your input is the best way for us to learn about what services parents of ND children are looking for and how we can provide this in a skills group setting. We will also offer opportunities to provide feedback anonymously throughout the group.
We understand that life is busy, and as parents/caregivers you may have little ones or other family members at home. It is completely ok if they show up in the background of your camera! As a participant in a skills group, please know that some people may not be participating from a private space.
While we encourage you to keep your camera on, it is completely fine to turn it off and step away. Please take care of yourself and those around you as needed. Each module will end with an optional session where you can ask questions about anything you might have missed along the way. We will also be starting from Module 1 again after this cycle ends, and we encourage people to attend as many cycles as they would like to continue learning and adding new skills as their children grow.
Get Started
After you fill out this form, a member of our clinical team will reach out to you to determine next steps for care.
