Brandon Hudson and FOX 2 Detroit
The Danny Boy Foundation was recently featured on FOX 2 Detroit, where our co-founders, Dr. Hasti Raveau and Ryleigh Kryska, sat down to discuss an issue at the heart of our mission: suicide prevention and mental health support for neurodivergent individuals.
During the interview, we shared why traditional approaches to mental health care and suicide prevention often fall short for autistic individuals, people with ADHD, and others who experience the world differently.

Why Neurodiversity-Affirming Suicide Prevention Matters
Neurodivergent individuals frequently face barriers to receiving appropriate mental health care, including stigma, misunderstanding, social isolation, and a lack of providers trained to recognize their unique needs. These challenges can leave individuals and families feeling unsupported, particularly during times of crisis.
At the Danny Boy Foundation, we believe suicide prevention must go beyond responding to a crisis. It must also focus on creating communities where people feel understood, accepted, connected, and supported long before they reach that point.
Turning Personal Loss Into Meaningful Change
The Danny Boy Foundation was established in memory of Danny, who died by suicide in 2016 at just 17 years old.
Danny's story continues to shape our mission and our commitment to changing how communities understand and respond to the mental health needs of neurodivergent individuals.
Through our three pillars—Education & Training, Affirming Clinical Care, and Basic Needs Support—we work to address gaps in care and the everyday challenges that can contribute to emotional distress and suicide risk.
Our goal is to equip families, educators, healthcare professionals, employers, and community organizations with the knowledge and resources needed to provide meaningful, compassionate support.
Bringing the Conversation to Our Community
We are grateful to FOX 2 Detroit for giving us the opportunity to share Danny's story, introduce our foundation, and bring greater awareness to the importance of neurodiversity-affirming suicide prevention.
Conversations like these help challenge stigma, encourage understanding, and remind our community that suicide prevention is everyone's responsibility.
Different Minds Need Different Kinds of Support.
Together, we can build a world worth staying for.
